Getting Started
Install MenuWeave
Section titled “Install MenuWeave”MenuWeave 0.21.2 requires Blender 4.2 or newer. The add-on’s integration checks cover Blender 4.2.0 and 5.2.1.
- Obtain the
ih_menu_weave-VERSION.zipextension package from your download provider. See Download for the planned store destinations. - In Blender, open Edit → Preferences → Extensions → Install from Disk and select the ZIP.
- Enable IH MenuWeave, then open Edit → Preferences → Add-ons → IH MenuWeave.
Use the extension package, not a repository source-code ZIP. A valid package has __init__.py and blender_manifest.toml directly at the archive root.
Create your first action
Section titled “Create your first action”A fresh installation creates a Modular Menu root with Shift+Q enabled. Its conflict override is initially enabled; inspect the conflict indicator before using it with your keymap. New additional root folders start with their hotkeys disabled.
- Select the root in Menu Structure, or create one with New Root.
- In Menu Actions, press +, name the action Select All, and enter the code below.
- Check that the root allows your workspace, the 3D Viewport, and Object Mode. Configure and enable its root hotkey if needed.
- Place the pointer over the 3D Viewport in Object Mode, invoke the root hotkey, and click the action or press its assigned key.
import bpy
if bpy.context.mode != 'OBJECT': raise RuntimeError("Use this action in Object Mode")bpy.ops.object.select_all(action='SELECT')New actions receive the first unused shortcut, beginning with 1–0, then A–Z. Change the combination or set it to Disabled in the action settings.
Add a child folder
Section titled “Add a child folder”Select a folder and choose New Child. Add actions to that child in Menu Actions. Root shortcuts open a menu from the editor; a child folder’s shortcut works inside its parent.
Use the mouse, Up/Down, or the wheel to choose an item. Enter/Right Arrow activates it, Backspace/Left Arrow returns to the parent, and Esc/right-click closes the popup.
Save your configuration
Section titled “Save your configuration”Menu edits change add-on preferences. If Blender’s Auto-Save Preferences is disabled, use Save Preferences. Scene Undo does not restore menu, action, or code edits.
Export a JSON backup before large changes. Export Settings can save either the complete configuration or the selected branch. Importing a trusted schema 15 file with Append creates independent roots without merging them into existing folders.
Update or remove
Section titled “Update or remove”Export settings before replacing or removing an installation. For an older development installation with a different name, disable it before installing MenuWeave, then update scripts and keymap entries that reference retired operator names. The current operator prefix is wm.ih_menu_weave_.
Only schema 15 JSON imports are accepted. Older preferences already saved inside Blender have an internal startup migration; that does not convert old JSON exports. Keep an older exported backup until you have verified the new configuration.
Disable or remove MenuWeave through Blender Preferences. Disabling removes its owned keymap bindings and closes its overlays. It does not manage operators, handlers, or other resources created by your own Python scripts.
Continue with your workflow
Section titled “Continue with your workflow”Explore the User Guide for individual workflows, the Technical Reference for filters and shortcut priority, or the Python API for repeat and menu service calls.
